On 13 November two militants of the Portuguese Communist Youth found to stimulate a propaganda action statement of the 36 anniversary of the Portuguese Communist Youth in the College of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon, namely an action political propaganda in a public place.
Faced with this initiative, the communist militants were targeted by abusive and illegal action by the GNR, having been wrongly addressed, searched, handcuffed, arrested and taken to the police station. It is further noted the connivance of the Directorate of FCT / UNL throughout this procedure and also the initiative to call the authority forces to prevent the exercise of a right.
Noted that this is one among many other cases that have taken place with several young people in schools, workplaces and other spaces, in contexts that streamline is propaganda actions, either under the right of assembly, association, organization or event , rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic conquered by the Portuguese people in the struggle for freedom.
The Portuguese Communist Youth condemns all these actions in a clear attack on democratic freedoms and rights, and in particular this action of the forces of authority starting from the Directorate of FCT orders / UNL, more not intend to intimidate and limit the political activity of youth is organized and acts in defense of their rights.
The Portuguese Communist Youth greets the thousands of young people every day, under enormous pressures and blackmail, do not relinquish their rights and exercise them. JCP confirms that it will be every day the values of democracy that have been hard-won in the April Revolution and rejects all anti-democratic actions that violate the rights of youth.
And that’s why, with pride and recognition of youth, the JCP will continue to streamline its action and intervention as it did today, and will continue to fight uncompromisingly for the values of freedom and democracy.
